Driveway & Arrival
The first impression of a property is made from the road. Tree-mounted moonlighting, gatepost lanterns, and low-profile path fixtures compose an approach of quiet authority.
Architectural outdoor lighting for private homes across New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts — composed at dusk, installed to last, with the quiet confidence of a home that has no need to announce itself.
Request a VisitWe are a small studio of designers and craftsmen who believe the best outdoor lighting is recognized only in its absence.
Our work serves a particular kind of home — one whose architecture, grounds, and history deserve to be read as carefully after sundown as they are at noon. We do not light yards. We compose evenings.
Each plan is drawn by hand, walked at dusk, and installed by our own team. The materials are heritage-grade brass and copper. The wiring is unseen. The neighbors rarely notice the fixtures — and that is precisely the point.
Every engagement begins with a dusk walk of the property. We study sightlines, architecture, mature plantings, and the particular character of New England light before any fixture is specified.
Solid cast brass and copper, finished to patina with grace. Systems engineered to perform quietly through four seasons — and four decades — of New England weather.
Wiring buried, transformers concealed, fixtures nested within the landscape. The system reveals itself only when lit — and then only as light, never as hardware.
Each property is a composition of spaces — arrival, architecture, garden, and water — lit in careful sequence so the home reads as one continuous thought.

Grazing techniques that reveal the texture of clapboard, fieldstone, and brick.
Specimen trees highlighted, beds grazed, walks guided without glare.
Surround illumination and color-tuned accents that extend the hours of an evening.
Briarwood Lighting provides architectural outdoor lighting, landscape and tree lighting, path and driveway lighting, and façade illumination for residential properties across New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts — including Portsmouth, New Castle, Bedford, Rye, Newburyport, Andover, Cape Cod, and the southern Maine seacoast.
A house, lit well, should look like itself after dark — not a brochure of itself. The source is quiet. The effect is everything. The Briarwood Principle On the restraint of outdoor light
A considered path from introduction to installation — designed to respect your time, your property, and the neighbors who share the view.
A conversation about the home, its use, and how you would like the evenings to feel. Without obligation, and in strict confidence.

90 Minutes · No ChargeA written lighting plan with photo-realistic mockups, fixture specification, and a transparent, line-item proposal.
Ten to Fourteen DaysLicensed, low-voltage installation by our own team. Aimed and fine-tuned at dusk upon completion. A five-year workmanship guarantee is standard.
Two to Four Days On-SiteThe questions we are asked most often, answered plainly — before your first visit.
We come at dusk and walk your property with you for about an hour. We study how the home sits on the land, which architectural lines want tracing, and which trees or gardens deserve a role after dark. We bring a notebook, not a catalog — and there is no obligation to proceed.
We work with private homes across New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts — the coastal seacoast of NH, the North Shore and Merrimack Valley of MA, Cape Cod, and southern Maine in particular. If your home falls outside that geography, write to us and we will let you know if it is a fit.
Most projects progress from first visit to first light within four to eight weeks — longer for larger properties or projects coordinated with ongoing landscape, masonry, or construction work. Installation itself is typically completed in two to four days on site.
We specify solid cast brass and copper fixtures that age gracefully and are engineered to perform through decades of New England weather. Annual aim-and-clean visits are offered for clients who prefer the system maintained by our studio. Wiring is buried to depth and transformers are hidden within the landscape.
Any time of year. Installations happen in every season — we are equipped to work in frozen ground when necessary. The initial design walk is especially rich from late summer through autumn, when long evenings make it easy to read how light falls across the property.
Tell us a little about your home. We will respond within two business days to arrange a no-obligation visit at dusk, at a time that suits you.
